Dear EPS Families,

Consistent attendance in elementary school is one of the most important factors in a child’s academic success. Every minute of the school day is intentionally planned to support learning, build strong foundational skills, and provide students with the practice and guidance they need to grow. At Edgewood Primary, our intervention block begins promptly at 9:00 AM and continues through 3:20 PM, ensuring that students receive targeted instruction in reading, math, and other essential skills. When a child arrives late or leaves early, they may miss this critical, dedicated time that is specifically designed to increase academic achievement and close learning gaps.

Even small amounts of lost time can add up quickly. A student who regularly misses the beginning or end of the school day may miss interventions, small-group instruction, assessments, or reteaching opportunities that are essential for their progress. By ensuring your child is at school every day, on time, and for the full day, you are helping them build strong habits and giving them the best possible opportunity to succeed. Together, we can support your child’s learning and help them reach their full potential.

At Edgewood Primary School, we are committed to supporting strong and consistent student attendance because we know how vital it is to every child’s academic growth. During the month of December, we will begin tracking daily and weekly attendance starting 12/1. Any student who maintains perfect attendance or only excused absences during the week will earn 15 minutes of extra recess, beginning on 12/8. We will continue this special incentive throughout December to recognize students who meet our attendance expectations and are present, engaged, and ready to learn.

After December, we will return to our regular weekly and monthly attendance rewards. Additionally, beginning in Quarter 3, students with excessive absences will not be eligible to participate in our PBIS Quarterly Incentives. We will share these expectations with families to ensure everyone understands how attendance impacts student achievement and access to schoolwide rewards.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping your child succeed. Your support in making sure your child attends school every day, arrives on time, and stays for the whole school day makes a tremendous difference.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jenny Halsey
Principal, Edgewood Primary School
